Cafe hopping in Hanoi?

We’ve rounded up the best places for matcha, coffee, or even just the vibes when you’re exploring Hanoi.

Trust us. You won’t regret adding these places in your Hanoi itinerary!

1. (á) the matcha space

Their regular matcha lattes were great, but their speciality matcha drinks like this Matcha Lemonade was off the charts

If you’re a matcha fan, this cafe in Hanoi is literally heaven — we came back three times in five days.

(á) the matcha space serves everything matcha, and the prices are nothing but fair,

at around VND 60,000 per drink. You can also top up additional matcha for just VND 10,000 per gram.

It’s a small place, with cosy Japanese decors, so we recommend visiting them during off-peak periods, or expect a queue.

Location: 93b Ng. 91 P. Trần Quang Diệu, Quang Trung, Đống Đa, Hà Nội
Opening hours: 9am-10pm

2. Giao Mua Coffee

This cafe in Hanoi Old Quarter looks like it was designed for a fairy tail.

One photo doesn’t do its architecture and decor justice, because every floor has a different layout, with a slightly different vibe. But the highlights had to be their rooftop, which seemed like the Garden of Eden, and its facade… which allure can’t exactly be described with words.

Beyond the regular coffees and matcha, we recommend exclusive speciality drinks such as the Salted Coffee or Kumquat Cold Brew, both priced at VND 50,000.

Location: 77 P. Lò Sũ, Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000
Opening hours: 7.30am-10pm

3. Hanoi Coffee Culture

Hanoi Coffee Culture

They claim that they’re the oldest Hanoi cafe that serves Egg Coffee. We can’t be sure of that, but this is a spot loved by tourists because they’ve toned down the strength of the coffee for tourists — if you’ve tried a proper cup of Vietnamese coffee, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Egg Coffee costs VND 50,000 ($2.5), and their menu even comprises American breakfast plates and croissants.

Location: 45 P. Nguyễn Hữu Huân, Phố cổ Hà Nội, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
Opening hours: 6:30am-8pm

4. Eastern and Oriental Tea House and Coffee Parlour

You can’t see it here, but if you head to the third floor, you’ll get a gorgeous view of the lake

If you’re sick of local desserts, this tea house along Westlake was a whole new experience. It’s antique furniture and decors make you feel like you’re dining in the past, but it’s their menu that truly stands out — featuring cakes and pastries that originate from Central Asia.

Location: 46 P. Quảng An, Quảng An, Tây Hồ, Hà Nội
Opening hours: 7.30am-10pm

5. Nagocha Matcha Specialty & Tea House @ Hanoi West Lake

Nagocha Speciality Tea House West Lake Hanoi

Another stunning cafe along Hanoi West Lake, Nagocha looks exactly like the type of tea house you’d find in Japan.

Prices are definitely a lot steeper here, averaging at VND 180,000. But hey, the atmosphere is one of a kind (at least in this city).

In addition to the usual matcha lattes and hojicha lattes, purists will also be delighted to find that they serve koicha and usucha. You can also order Matcha Croissants (VND 129,000)Matcha Mousse (VND 149,000), and other light bites.

Location: 38 P. Quảng An, Quảng An, Tây Hồ, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam
Opening hours:
Mon-Thu: 8:30am-10pm
Fri-Sun: 8:30am-10:30pm

6. ikigai coffee

This cafe gave us Tokyo vibes right in the heart of Hanoi.

ikigai’s clean aesthetic and peaceful courtyard made it the perfect morning stop, and it’s one of the few cafes in Hanoi that serve proper V60 filter coffees, if you’re into third-wave coffee.

Location: 43 Ng. 38 P. Phương Mai, Kim Liên, Đống Đa, Hà Nội 100000,
Opening hours: 7am-11pm

7. Dao Matcha

With more than seven outlets around the city, you can literally get a decent cup of matcha anywhere you want in Hanoi.

While Dao Matcha gives off a fast-food vibe to their brand — with the sheer number of drinks on their menu — their matcha is actually pretty decent. Their Premium Matcha Latte (VND 60,000) hit the spot, and if you’re a fan of speciality matcha drinks, we heard that their Yuzucha (VND 55,000) and Matcha Earl Grey (VND 50,000) are pretty popular too.

Location: Multiple locations

8. C.O.C Legacy Speciality Coffee

You wouldn’t know — or dare visit — this cafe unless you’ve seen recommendations before.

C.O.C Legacy Speciality Coffee is hidden in a shophouse at Old Quarters, where you’d have to walk through the shadiest stairwell. But trust us, it’s completely safe, and you’ll be greeted by an award-winning coffee house at the end.

I’d recommend their V60, but if you’re not a fan of black, standouts include Ban Tre Coconut CoffeeJackfruit Coffee, and their Cascara Tea — all priced at VND 66,000.

We also highly recommend trying their Grilled Coconut Cookies (VND 52,000).

Location: 84 P. Hàng Bạc, Hàng Đào, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 11011, Vietnam
Opening hours: 8:30am-7:30pm

9. Always Cafe

Who would’ve thought there would be a Harry Potter-themed cafe in Hanoi, but here we are.
Always Cafe is decked in everything magical and wizardry. Its food menu comprises western fast foods, such as pizzas and fries. But their drink selection is much more promising, with Butter Beer and “Potions” available.

Location: 8B P. Hàng Tre, Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
Opening hours: 8am-11pm

10. Kismet Coffee

Nothing that special about the menu, but this cafe is great if you’re looking for an Instagrammable spot for photos, or if you want to play board games for free.

Location: 30 Ng. 4 P.Đặng Văn Ngữ, Trung Tự, Đống Đa, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam

Hanoi is famous for their banh mi, but you’ve gotta give this bagel cafe a try.

You can enjoy them in all sorts of variations, including both sweet and savoury options, such as Red Bean Matcha Creamcheese Bagel (VND 60,000), and Fried Chicken & Cheese Bagel (VND 70,000).
